Paddle out, then float over a working reef instead of watching from the shore.

Snorkel and paddleboard at Fort Lauderdale Beach, exploring the reef system by floating attached to your board or drifting together over multicolored corals and marine life. The activity runs 2.5 hours with a live guide, all gear included, and complimentary photos. Minimum two guests per departure; 72-hour cancellation notice required.

The Experience

You meet at the beach and get fitted with a stand-up paddleboard, life jacket, mask, snorkel and fins. The guide briefs you on paddling technique, snorkeling basics and marine safety before heading out to the reef system. This is not a lesson — you're ready to move — but the instruction means you're not figuring it out alone in the water. Once you reach the reef, you can stay attached to your board and float, or the guide will moor the boards together and lead a drift dive over the corals. The guide searches for species as you move, pointing out what's below.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea ranks as one of the best dive areas in the world and second only to the Great Barrier Reef in visitor traffic. The reef system here sits close enough to reach in a morning, and the multicolored corals and marine life are the reason people come back. You get complimentary photos of the outing, so you're not managing a camera while you're in the water. All gear stays with the operator — you show up and paddle.

The 10am departure is the standard option; book at least 72 hours ahead, as cancellations within 24 hours of start time forfeit the fee due to limited capacity. If weather or rough conditions cancel the trip, you can reschedule or get a refund. Waterproof phone cases, dry bags and kombucha are available for separate purchase or rental if you want them.

What’s included

  • All paddleboarding and snorkeling gear — board, life jacket, mask, snorkel and fins.
  • a live guide leading you out to the reef and pointing out marine life.
  • complimentary photos of the outing.

Top questions

What's the reef like at Lauderdale-by-the-Sea compared to other snorkel spots?

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is the second most visited snorkel destination in the world after the Great Barrier Reef, known for multicolored corals and a wide variety of marine life. The reef system sits close enough to reach by paddleboard in the morning, so you spend most of your time in the water rather than traveling.

Do I need snorkeling or paddleboarding experience to join?

No experience is required. The guide briefs you on paddling technique, snorkeling basics and marine safety before heading out, so you learn what you need to know on the beach. This is not a lesson, but the instruction means you're not figuring it out alone in the water.

What gear do I get, and do I need to bring my own?

The activity includes a stand-up paddleboard, life jacket, mask, snorkel and fins. All equipment is provided, so you don't need to bring or rent anything separately. Complimentary photos are included as well.

How many people go on each trip, and do I have to book with a group?

The activity requires a minimum of two guests per departure, so you can book as a pair or invite friends and family to join. The operator suggests booking in advance due to popular demand and limited capacity.

What happens if the weather is bad or the ocean is rough?

If the trip is canceled due to weather or rough conditions, you can reschedule for another date or receive a refund. You do need to cancel at least 72 hours before the start time to get a refund; cancellations within 24 hours forfeit the fee.
