The experience
GoCar puts you in the driver's seat of a three-wheeled vehicle that handles like a motorcycle but seats two and holds your things in a lockable trunk. The GPS guides you turn by turn, and you control the speed. Most roads on the tour are residential or run through parks, so you'll average 30 mph or less. The vehicle goes up to 35 mph, but the point is stopping when something catches your eye: the Palace of Fine Arts, Fort Mason's bay views, Ghirardelli Square, or any of the photo stops the route suggests.
The tour hits the major landmarks without forcing you past them. You'll drive to Fort Point, where the Golden Gate Bridge towers about 200 feet overhead. You can't drive across it, but you can park and walk onto the bridge span from the vantage point there. Crissy Field spreads out nearby with open views. On the way back, the route takes you through Chestnut and Union Streets for shopping and dining, then saves the finale for Lombard Street, the famously crooked eight-block descent that's as thrilling to drive as it is to walk. The whole day is yours to shape: you can follow the suggested route exactly or take the detours the GPS offers.
You'll need a valid driver's license in your physical possession and be at least 21 to rent. Passengers must be 4 or older and fit safely into a DOT-approved helmet. The maximum combined weight for two passengers is 500 pounds, and the maximum height is 6'4". A $500 security deposit holds on your credit card at check-in and releases when you return the vehicle. If you add optional collision damage waiver insurance, the deposit drops to $300. The audio guide comes in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and five other languages, so you hear the commentary in your choice of voice.
What’s included
- The rental includes a full tank of gas, helmet for each passenger, a map, GPS-guided audio commentary in your choice of language, rider orientation before departure, and an 8.75% environmental fee covering carbon offset and tire recycling.
- hotel pickup and drop-off are available as an optional add-on.

Is this one for you?The audio guide speaks in your choice of language, so non-English speakers follow the route and the commentary without a guide in the car. You drive at your own pace and stop whenever you want, which suits travelers who want to linger at photo spots or take the detours the GPS suggests rather than stick to a fixed schedule.

Top questions
Can I really drive the Golden Gate Bridge on this GoCar tour?
No, the GoCar cannot cross the bridge itself, but the tour navigates you to Fort Point, where the bridge rises about 200 feet above you, and you can park and walk onto the bridge span from the car park at that vantage point.
What happens if I damage the GoCar while I'm driving?
A $500 security deposit holds on your credit card at check-in. If you purchase the optional Collision Damage Waiver insurance for $19, the deposit is reduced to $300 instead, and the CDW limits your liability in case of accident.
Do I have to follow the exact route, or can I explore on my own?
You set your own pace and can stop along the way whenever you want. The GPS recommends the main route and includes several fun detours you can take, so you have flexibility to linger or skip ahead.
What's included in the three hours I get for the price of two?
The tour includes the GoCar rental with a full tank of gas, a helmet for each passenger, a map, a rider orientation before you start, and an 8.75% environmental fee that covers carbon offset, gasoline, and tire recycling.
Who can ride as a passenger, and are there any size or age limits?
Passengers must be at least 4 years old and fit safely into a DOT-approved helmet. The maximum combined weight for two passengers is 500 pounds, and the maximum height is 6'4". Small children must be able to wear one of the helmets safely.
What languages is the audio guide available in?
The GPS audio guide is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and five additional languages, so you can follow the commentary in your preferred language.
