The experience
The lesson starts on the beach with a land session covering ocean awareness, wave breaks, water safety and surf etiquette: the foundation before you touch a board. You'll drill paddling and pop-up techniques on sand, learning the mechanics of how to get upright and stay balanced. This setup takes about 30 minutes and builds the muscle memory that matters once you're in the water.
After the land work, you move into the ocean and spend roughly 1.5 to 2 hours in the water, starting in the whitewater where the broken waves are forgiving. The instructor stays with you as you practice catching waves and riding them toward shore, adjusting your stance and timing. The water time is where the lesson clicks. You're not watching. You're doing it, over and over, until the motion stops feeling foreign.
All equipment comes with the lesson: surfboard, wetsuit if needed, and anything else you'll wear. The instructors are CPR and lifeguard certified, so the environment is safe without feeling sterile. The clinic is built for people trying surfing for the first time, but it also works for anyone who has paddled out before and wants to fix what isn't working: balance, wave selection, the pop-up itself.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What do I actually learn during the land lesson?
The land session covers ocean awareness, wave breaks and how to read water conditions, plus safety both in and out of the water and the etiquette surfers follow. You'll practice paddling motion and the pop-up (the explosive push that gets you standing on the board), so the movement is automatic when you're in the water.
How much time do I spend actually in the water?
You'll have roughly 1.5 to 2 hours of water time inside the 2.5-hour lesson, starting in the whitewater and practicing wave-catching as you get comfortable. The first 30 minutes or so covers the land lesson and getting suited up on the beach.
Do I need to have surfed before to take this lesson?
No, the clinic is designed for complete beginners. It also welcomes anyone who has tried surfing on their own and wants help with balance or catching waves, so it works whether you've never paddled out or you've been in the water a few times without instruction.
What's included, and do I need to bring anything?
The lesson includes a surfboard, all necessary gear and a professional instructor certified in CPR and lifeguard training. You don't need to bring or rent equipment separately. Bring a towel and a change of clothes for after. Public transportation is available nearby if you're not driving.
