The experience

The workshop opens with an indoor presentation on mushroom foraging basics and safety: both for you and the ecosystem. Maya covers how to identify certain trees and the fungi that grow on or with them, then leads you outside to find mushrooms in their actual habitat. As you walk, you'll learn to spot chanterelles, oyster mushrooms, candy caps and other species, discuss what makes them edible or dangerous, and understand the ecological role fungi play in the forest.

When you find edible mushrooms, the focus shifts to practical details: how to identify them, what features separate them from poisonous look-alikes, how to prepare them, and their nutritional and medicinal uses. Maya's approach emphasizes regenerative practices. You learn to forage in ways that sustain the ecosystem rather than deplete it. The workshop can be tailored to your interests. If you want to focus on certain mushroom types or topics, let Maya know and she'll weave them in.
