  • Experience old-growth redwood forest
  • Stop for snack by creek
  • Dip toes in creek water
  • Return to starting point

The experience

The tour covers 8 miles of riding on slow-speed roads that wind through old-growth redwoods in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, plus an optional 2 miles of walking. You ride an e-bike with pedal assist, so the motor handles the work on climbs and flat stretches alike: riders of all skill levels can keep pace. The guide leads the way and points out the forest details that make this route distinct from a solo ride: the way the canopy opens at certain bends, the creeks that run alongside the road, the scale of trees that are centuries old.

Stops happen along the route: you'll pause at Bull Creek to wade in the water if you want, and there's a snack break where you can rest and take in the quiet. The whole outing takes 4 hours from start to finish. Quality e-bikes and helmets are provided. If you're traveling with an infant, a specialized seat is available.

The intermediate difficulty rating reflects the roadway riding itself, not the fitness demand. The e-bike motor does most of the work. Riders should have at least a moderate level of fitness and be comfortable on a bike. Children must be able to ride proficiently on their own or small enough to fit in a child carrier.

What’s included

  • Quality e-bike and helmet for each rider.
  • a live guide in English leading the route.
  • stops at Bull Creek and along the Mattole Road section of the forest.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (under 17).

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

How far do I actually pedal on an e-bike tour like this?

The e-bike motor handles climbs and flat sections, so you're not pedaling hard. You control the pace and the motor assists. Most riders find themselves pedaling lightly or coasting for much of the 8 miles, especially on the gentle grades of the Avenue of the Giants roads.

What happens at Bull Creek during the tour?

The tour stops at Bull Creek so you can wade in the water if you'd like. It's a chance to cool off and feel the creek itself, not just see it from the road. The stop is optional. You can rest on the bank instead.

Is this tour private or shared with other riders?

You can book a private group tour for your party alone, or join a guided e-bike tour with other riders. Both options follow the same 8-mile route and 4-hour schedule.
