The experience

The Land Cruiser picks you up from your Dubai hotel at 9:00 am and drives about 40 minutes into the desert. Once you reach the riding area, the driver deflates the vehicle's tires to prepare for dune bashing: roughly 30 minutes of driving across the sand with the landscape rolling beneath you. You'll stop for photos in the middle of the dunes before moving to the quad bike section.

You take control of a fully automatic quad bike and ride for 30 minutes through a fenced area of the desert. The standard route covers the dunes at their regular height. If you want more intensity, you can opt for the high dunes option, where the terrain steepens into what the operator calls a roller coaster drive. Either way, you're operating the bike yourself: steering, accelerating and braking across sand that shifts under the tires. A professional guide rides with the group and speaks English, Hindi, Filipino or Urdu.

After the quad bike ride, the day includes sand boarding on the dunes and a short camel ride before the driver returns you to your central Dubai hotel around 12:30 pm. Bottled water is provided in the vehicle throughout. The whole outing (pickup, dune bashing, quad biking, camel ride, sand boarding and drop-off) takes about 4 hours.
