The Experience

The first day starts after breakfast with a drive through the Luwero triangle toward Murchison Falls. You stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track white rhinos on foot—the sanctuary breeds both white and black rhinos with the goal of restoring populations across Uganda's protected areas. From there the route continues into the park, climbing to the top of Murchison Falls itself, where the Nile is forced through a gap only 7 meters wide before plunging 43 meters down. You reach your accommodation along the riverbank by evening.

Day two splits between land and water. A morning game drive heads to the Delta in search of bird life and larger animals—lions, giraffes, elephant herds, buffalo, and crocodiles. After lunch at the lodge, an afternoon boat cruise takes you down the Nile toward the falls. This stretch of river holds around 4,000 hippos and enormous Nile crocodiles; the riverbanks are lined with kingfishers and bee-eaters, and if conditions align you may spot the rare shoebill. The boat takes you to the base of the falls, where their scale becomes fully apparent.

The final morning involves an early game drive west of the park, where the terrain opens to chimp trekking and walking through forest paths. You search for chimpanzees, baboons, monkeys, birds, elephants and crocodiles before being transferred back to Kampala. Chimp trekking is optional and depends on permit availability; cotton clothing is recommended for the forest sections due to thorns along the newly cut paths.
