Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls Park

The experience

The drive north from Kampala or Entebbe starts at 7 am, crossing through Luweero and Masindi districts past traditional farms and villages. A stop at Ziwa Ranch Rhino Sanctuary gives you a first sighting before lunch in Masindi town. You reach the park by afternoon and head straight to the top and bottom viewpoints of Murchison Falls itself, where the Nile crashes through a 3-meter gorge and drops 45 meters into the valley below. The roar is audible from the viewing platforms, and photographers find multiple angles along the rim.

Day two starts before dawn with breakfast at 6:30 am, then an early game drive across the Buligi circuit. The peninsula between the Victoria Nile and Lake Albert where animals concentrate at dawn. Your guide helps you spot elephants, lions, giraffes, buffalo and hyena moving through borassus palm savanna and forest patches. After lunch back at the lodge, a boat cruise takes you downriver to the base of the falls, where crocodiles line the banks and the water's force is felt as much as seen.

On the final day, you can add chimp trekking in Budongo Forest near Masindi: an 8 km trek from the main gate at Kaniyo Pabidi where you walk for other primates like red-tailed and blue monkeys and forest birds. This is a paid add-on requiring separate arrangement and can take a full day. If you skip it, the drive back to Kampala or Entebbe after breakfast closes the tour. Accommodation is at Red Chill Lodges or similar throughout.
