The experience

If you've just landed in Kampala or have a free stretch of days before your next commitment, this tour handles the drive from the city and puts you inside Uganda's biggest national park by afternoon. The operator picks you up from your hotel or home, and the route takes you north to Murchison Falls. You stay at one of three lodges (Parkside Safari Lodge, Heritage Lodge, or Hornbill) depending on your preference, and the first evening settles you in for an early start the next morning.

Day two is built around wildlife and water. An early game drive takes you across the park when animals are most active. You'll see elephants, buffalo, lions and other Big 5 species across the savanna. After breakfast back at the lodge, you have lunch and then board a launch for the afternoon boat cruise on the Nile Delta. The cruise ends with a hike to the top of Murchison Falls itself: the most powerful waterfall in the world, where the Nile narrows and drops through a rocky gorge. The boat gets you close to the base. The walk takes you to the rim for the full view.

On day three, you drive back to Kampala with a lunch stop along the way. The operator drops you at your hotel or takes you to the airport for an outbound flight, so the timing works whether you're heading home or moving on to another part of Uganda. Children from age 7 are welcome on the tour.
