Equator Tour in Kampala: Stand on Two Hemispheres
Stand at the point where Earth's two halves meet
A private guided tour of the Equator in Kampala where you stand on the imaginary line dividing the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Your guide demonstrates the physics of the location using water and magnetic fields to show how gravity and the Coriolis effect work at 0 degrees latitude. The tour runs eight hours and includes lunch.

Step-by-step itinerary
Equator line demonstration and experience
- Guide points out 0 degrees latitude
- Identify southern and northern hemispheres
- Show water sinking clockwise in northern hemisphere
- Show water sinking counter-clockwise in southern hemisphere
- Demonstrate water sinking straight down at equator
The experience
The tour centers on a single landmark: the point where the Equator crosses Uganda. Your guide will show you exactly where the 0 degrees latitude line runs, then walk you through the hemisphere demonstrations that make this place worth the journey. Using water and magnetic fields, the guide proves the difference between the two halves of the planet: in the Northern Hemisphere, water drains clockwise down a hole. In the Southern Hemisphere, it drains counter-clockwise. At the Equator itself, the water sinks straight down, marking the imaginary line that splits the world.
The physics behind it is straightforward: gravity is slightly weaker at the Equator because you stand farther from Earth's center than you do at the poles. The Earth is not a perfect sphere (it bulges at the middle and flattens at the poles), so the distance matters. You will weigh roughly 0.5% less standing on this line than you would elsewhere on the planet. The guide explains why, and the water demonstrations make it visible.
The eight-hour tour includes lunch and pickup, so you do not arrange transport separately. The site is wheelchair accessible, and the tour suits all fitness levels. Infants and small children can come in a pram or stroller, and service animals are welcome.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you want a guide to walk you through the science and the demonstrations rather than simply standing at the line on your own. The eight-hour format gives time for the explanations and the water experiments to sink in, and the private booking means the pace stays with your questions.

Top questions
What exactly happens when the guide demonstrates the water at the Equator?
At the Equator, water sinks straight down through a hole instead of spiraling clockwise or counter-clockwise as it does on either hemisphere. The guide uses magnetic fields to show this difference, proving that you are standing on the actual line where the two halves of Earth meet.
Will I actually feel lighter standing on the Equator?
Yes, you will weigh approximately 0.5% less at the Equator than at the poles because gravity is slightly weaker there. The difference comes from Earth's shape: it bulges at the middle, so you stand farther from the planet's center at the Equator, and gravity weakens with distance.
How long is the tour and what is included?
The tour runs eight hours and includes lunch. Pickup is included, so you do not need to arrange your own transport to the Equator site.
Can I bring children or use a wheelchair?
Yes. The site is fully wheelchair accessible, and all areas and surfaces are accessible. Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller, and service animals are allowed.
