A hands-on Turkish coffee workshop in Antalya's old town where you learn to brew coffee on sand and with a stove, choose from five bean blends, and take home a coffee set with Turkish delight. The session runs about an hour with a live English-speaking guide. Children from age 3 are welcome.

The experience

The workshop meets you at the office near the clock tower in Antalya's old town, steps from the Hadrian Gate. After a presentation on Turkish coffee culture and history, you move into the hands-on part: grinding beans you've selected from five different blends, then brewing coffee two ways. First comes the traditional method: making coffee directly on hot sand, the way it's been done for centuries. Then you'll brew using a stove and cezve, so you learn both techniques and can choose which one works at home.

Once your coffee is ready, you sit down to drink it and talk through the experience with the guide. This is also when the fortune-telling happens: the guide reads your future from the coffee grounds left in your cup, a tradition woven into Turkish coffee culture. You'll learn how to select accompaniments (what pairs with coffee and why), and understand the small rituals that make the drink more than caffeine.

You leave with a gift set containing a specialty coffee blend and Turkish delight, so the workshop doesn't end when you walk out the door. Public transportation is nearby if you need it, and the location is central to Antalya, making it easy to fit into the rest of your day.
