The experience

You arrive in Izmir and your guide meets you at the airport. From there, the four days unfold as a route through the ancient cities where John wrote his letters to the churches. Day one takes you to Smyrna, where the 2nd-century Bishop Polycarp was burned alive, and then to Pergamon, called in Revelation the place "where Satan's seat is": a reference to the altar of Zeus that still stands there. Day two moves inland to Thyatira, Sardis and Philadelphia. Each stop carries the specific message Jesus sent to that church: Thyatira tolerated false prophets; Sardis was spiritually dead despite its reputation; Philadelphia remained faithful.
