Pamukkale sits in Denizli Province in southwestern Anatolia, about 240 kilometers from Antalya. The landscape is shaped by tectonic movements that have created the calcium terraces over time: the white formations cascade down the hillside like frozen waterfalls. You'll walk through the travertines with bare feet, feeling the mineral-rich water warm beneath you, and swim in the thermal pools. Cleopatra Pool, fed by the same hot springs, is one of the stops where you can spend time in the water.

Hierapolis, the ancient "Holy City," sits just above the pools. The site holds a large necropolis filled with sarcophagi, the remains of great baths built with massive stone blocks, and deep niches that once housed a library and gymnasium. The Tomb of Philip the Apostle is also here. The Hierapolis museum sits behind the pools and offers more detail on the site's history. Entry to the museum and the ancient pool is available for an extra charge if you want to add it to your day.
