The experience
The route leaves Fethiye heading south along the coast, stopping first in Kalkan for photos of the whitewashed houses and bougainvilleas that cascade toward the water. After about 90 minutes you reach Kaş, where you have an hour to walk the town and eat lunch (included). The guide will tell you where to meet the bus afterward.
Kaputaş Beach comes next, a 45-minute swimming break at a cove between Kaş and Patara. The water is shallow and the sand fine. You can bring your own towel or rent an umbrella and two sunbeds for around 10€. From there the tour moves to Patara Beach, an 18-kilometer stretch of sand where sea turtles lay eggs and the depth reaches 200 to 300 meters in places. This is your second swim stop, and if you want to visit the ancient city of Patara (the former capital of the Lycian League and birthplace of Saint Nicholas). You can pay the 15€ entry fee and walk the ruins on your own while the group swims. The guide will set a meeting time. The return drive to Fethiye takes about two hours, arriving around 6:30 or 7pm.
The tour runs in an air-conditioned vehicle and suits all fitness levels. Infants sit on an adult's lap. Drinks beyond the one soft drink included with lunch, and sunbed rentals at either beach, are your own cost.
