The experience

Ephesus was one of the largest and most important cities in the ancient world, and the ruins show why. You walk through streets where 240,000 people once lived, past the Library of Celsus with its carved facade, the Temple of Hadrian, and the Grand Theatre where St. Paul preached. An expert guide leads you through the site and explains what you're standing in front of: how the city was laid out, what each building was for, why it mattered. The scale of what survives is what makes Ephesus different from smaller archaeological sites. This is a whole city you can move through, not just a temple or two.

After Ephesus, you stay overnight at a 3-star thermal hotel and have dinner included. The next day takes you to Pamukkale, which means "cotton castle" in Turkish: a natural phenomenon of white calcium terraces stacked down a mountainside. You can swim in the thermal pools, including Cleopatra's Pool, a Roman bath fed by hot mineral water. Then you explore Hierapolis, the ancient city built on top of the terraces, where you see temples, a theatre and tombs carved into the rock. The two days let you see both the human-built grandeur of Ephesus and the geological wonder of Pamukkale without rushing either one.

What’s included

  • An English-speaking guide throughout both days.

Is this one for you?Two days means you see Ephesus without rushing it, then spend a full day at Pamukkale instead of squeezing both into one exhausting itinerary. If you have only an afternoon free, a 1-day version would fit better. If you want to add other sites in the region, a longer tour would give you room.
