The Experience

You're picked up from your Istanbul hotel three hours before your flight and driven to the airport with your flight ticket already included. The domestic flight to Kayseri takes just over an hour, and when you land, a shuttle meets you for the 1.3-hour drive to Göreme. After tea and coffee at the office, the day's exploration begins at the Esentepe viewpoint between Uchisar and Göreme, where the panorama opens across the town and the surrounding fairy chimneys.

The Göreme Open Air Museum is the centerpiece—a collection of monasteries, churches and chapels dating to the Middle Ages, with frescoes still visible inside the rock-cut buildings. From there you move through the Monks Valley (also called Pasabag), known for its three-headed fairy chimneys and the vineyard landscape around them. The Devrent Valley comes next, a lunar-like stretch of small pointed formations where you can walk and photograph. The Three Beauties near Urgup—three brilliant fairy chimneys and the most famous symbol of the region—round out the main stops before you return to the office in Göreme with an hour of free time.

A shuttle takes you back to Kayseri airport for the evening flight to Istanbul, and the driver meets you at arrivals to return you to your hotel. Lunch is an open buffet with options for dietary requirements if you note them at booking. The guide speaks English, Spanish or Russian depending on your group, and the air-conditioned vehicle handles all transport between sites.
