The Experience

You're picked up from your Istanbul hotel at 7:30am and driven to Eceabat, arriving by 12:30pm for a included lunch. The drive crosses the Dardanelles Strait, and from there the Gallipoli peninsula unfolds as a landscape of trenches, cemeteries and memorials—each one marking a specific moment in the 1915 campaign. After lunch, the guide leads you through the sites in sequence: the Kabatepe War Museum first, then Brighton Beach and its cemetery on the southern tip of ANZAC Cove, where the first wave of ANZAC troops landed and up to 30,000 soldiers were stationed during the campaign.

The day moves through ANZAC Cove itself, the Ari Burnu cemetery, and the ANZAC Commemoration Site before reaching Lone Pine Australian Memorial—the site of the successful Australian attack on Turkish trenches during the August offensive. Johnston's Jolly follows, where you walk through original Allied and Turkish trenches and tunnels still preserved in the ground. The 57th Regiment Turkish Memorial and The Nek, famous from the Gallipoli film for the light horse charge, come next. The tour ends at Chunuk Bair, the New Zealand Memorial at the highest point captured during the entire campaign. Sightseeing finishes at 6pm.

The return journey to Istanbul takes roughly five hours, with a stop for dinner along the way (at your own expense) before arriving back at your hotel around 11pm.
