Step-by-step itinerary

Bosphorus cruise and city tour

  • Visit Dolmabahce Palace
  • Take Bosphorus Strait cruise
  • View Besiktas District from boat
  • See Rustem Pasha Mosque
  • Explore Spice Market
  • Walk along Istiklal Street
  • Pass by Eminonu Square

The Experience

The day starts with Dolmabahce Palace, a 19th-century blend of Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassical architecture that served as the Ottoman Empire's administrative center until 1922. From there you board a private boat for the Bosphorus Strait cruise — the waterway that splits Europe from Asia and ranks among the world's busiest shipping routes. Both shores are lined with Ottoman palaces, lush gardens and seafront mansions called yali. Your guide explains the Besiktas District from the water, a restless neighborhood that's also home to the famous football club of the same name.

After the cruise, you walk to Rustem Pasha Mosque, designed by the Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan in the 16th century. The interior is covered in hand-made Iznik tiles — geometric and floral patterns that coat the walls, columns, mihrab and minbar. From there you move through the Spice Bazaar, one of Istanbul's oldest covered markets, where goods from the Anatolian heartland and former Ottoman territories have traded for centuries. You can taste Turkish delights, spices, nuts and dried fruits as you browse. The tour ends on Istiklal Street, a pedestrian avenue lined with shops, cafés, live music venues, historic cinemas, art galleries and consulate buildings — the place to feel the energy of the city without a plan.

Your private guide speaks English throughout, and you skip the line when buying museum tickets. The tour runs 7 hours total. If Dolmabahce is closed on the day you book, the operator will arrange an alternative — Yıldız Palace, Basilica Cistern or Topkapı Palace instead.
