The experience

The guide meets you at Kusadasi cruise port with your name and takes you straight into Ephesus, where the ruins sprawl across a hillside. You walk past the Odeon, where ancient audiences heard music and speeches, then through the Library of Celsus, once one of the world's largest libraries, its facade still standing two stories high. The Grand Theater seated 24,000 people. St. Paul preached there. Roman baths, fountains, the Temple of Domitian and the Agora show how the city actually worked: where people bathed, bought food, worshipped and lived.

After Ephesus, you visit the House of Virgin Mary, a small stone chapel on a hillside where Christians believe Mary spent her final years. Three popes have visited (Paul VI in 1967, John Paul II in 1979, and Benedict XVI in 2006) each affirming its spiritual significance. Then you drive to the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. What remains is modest (a few columns, a foundation), but the scale of what stood there becomes clear when you stand in front of it.

The tour is five hours total, including travel time between sites. Your guide is a licensed professional who speaks English. The vehicle is air-conditioned and parking is included. You return to Kusadasi port before your ship departs.
