The Experience
How do you see four major sites in one day without spending half of it in entry queues or figuring out which minibus goes where? This tour solves that by bundling skip-the-line tickets, a private vehicle and a guide who knows the archaeology into a single booking. You get picked up from your Izmir hotel or cruise port, and the guide handles the route, the timing and the context at each stop—Ephesus Ancient City, where the Library of Celsus and the Theatre still stand; the Temple of Artemis, reduced now to marble foundations but once one of the Seven Wonders; the Basilica of St. John, built over the evangelist's grave in the 4th century; and the House of the Virgin Mary, a stone structure on a hillside 9 kilometers from the main site.
The tour runs five to seven hours depending on how long you spend at each location and whether you choose to add lunch. Ephesus Ancient City is the centerpiece—a former Roman commercial hub on the southwest coast of modern Turkey, layered with Greek, Hellenistic and Byzantine remains. Your guide will walk you through the site and explain what you're standing in front of, which turns a pile of old stones into a readable history. The Temple of Artemis is mostly gone, but the guide will show you what survives and explain why it mattered. The Basilica of St. John sits on Ayosolug Hill; the House of the Virgin Mary is quieter, set in green landscape away from the crowds.
The private vehicle means no waiting for a group to assemble, no fixed departure time beyond your pickup window, and no splitting attention between a dozen other travelers. Your guide is licensed and speaks English. Parking fees, taxes and the vehicle itself are included; you bring only yourself and comfortable walking shoes.

What's actually left to see at the Temple of Artemis if it's one of the Seven Wonders?
The Temple of Artemis survives as marble foundations and scattered architectural fragments—columns, capitals and shafts—because the site turned into a swamp over centuries. The most beautiful remaining pieces are now in the British Museum, but your guide will show you what remains on the ground and explain the scale and design of the original Hellenistic structure.
How long is the drive from Izmir to Ephesus, and do I need to leave very early?
The drive takes about one hour each way. Your pickup time depends on your hotel location or cruise ship docking time, which you'll provide at booking so the operator can plan your return in time for re-boarding if you're a ship passenger.
Can I add lunch to this tour, or do I need to bring my own food?
Lunch is not included in the standard tour. You can arrange it separately at a restaurant near the sites, or discuss options with your guide when you book.
Is this tour physically demanding, or can someone with limited mobility do parts of it?
The tour requires at least a moderate level of physical fitness because you'll be walking archaeological sites with uneven ground and some elevation changes. Infants and small children can ride in a stroller, but the sites themselves involve walking. It's not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health.
What makes this tour different from joining a group tour at the same sites?
This is a private tour, so the guide, vehicle and timing are yours alone. You skip the entry lines at Ephesus Ancient City with pre-purchased tickets, and your guide can adjust the pace and stops to match your interests instead of keeping to a fixed group schedule.
Do I need to speak Turkish, or will the guide speak English the whole time?
Your guide speaks English and holds archaeological training. All communication, site explanations and logistics are in English.
