The experience

Your guide meets you at Kusadasi port holding a sign with your name, and from there the day moves through three sites without you managing tickets or transport. The drive to the House of the Virgin Mary takes you into the Aladag Mountains, five miles from Ephesus, where the house sits on a hillside pilgrimage site. Pope Paul VI visited in 1967. The Archbishop of Izmir declared it a place of pilgrimage in 1892 after its discovery. You walk through the rooms and grounds, then drive ten minutes to Ephesus.
