The experience

The tour starts before dawn (pickup from your Istanbul hotel between 4:15 and 6:30 am, depending on flight time), and gets you to Kayseri or Nevsehir airport for an early morning flight to Cappadocia. Roundtrip domestic flight tickets are included, along with 15 kg checked baggage and 8 kg hand luggage per flight. A guide meets you at the airport and transfers you to the region, so the moment you land, the day's itinerary begins without any waiting around for arrangements.

Day one covers the north: Goreme Open-Air Museum, a UNESCO-listed complex of rock-carved Byzantine churches with original frescoes, gets skip-the-line entry. You walk through Pasabag to see the mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys, then Devrent Valley with its animal-shaped rock formations. Lunch happens in Avanos, a pottery town on the Kızılırmak River, with free time to explore. A pottery workshop visit shows how the town's centuries-old craft still works. By evening you're checked into a boutique cave hotel (Fresco Cave Suites, Solem Cave Suite or similar) with breakfast included the next morning.

Day two covers the south: Kaymakli Underground City, one of Cappadocia's largest, with its tunnels and carved rooms descending deep underground. You see Red Valley and Love Valley, visit a stone-carving workshop for an onyx demonstration, then walk Pigeon Valley with its ancient dovecotes carved into volcanic cliffs.
