The experience

Kaymaklı Underground City anchors the morning. You walk through narrow tunnels, ventilation shafts and ancient storage areas carved into soft volcanic rock, learning how thousands of people once sheltered and lived in this multi-level refuge. The guide explains the early Christian history and the engineering that made underground life possible, then you emerge to the daylight landscape that shaped it.

The afternoon moves through the valleys and villages that define Cappadocia. Pigeon Valley shows the dovecotes carved into soft rock; Çavuşin is a historic village with cave dwellings and panoramic views; Devrent Valley has the lunar landscape and surreal rock formations the region is known for. In Avanos, you stop at a pottery workshop to watch artisans work with a 4,000-year-old terracotta tradition, and at a carpet factory to see hand-woven Turkish rugs being made. The Red Valley and Rose Valley close the day with their dramatic colored cliffs. The Red Valley is the best sunset location in Cappadocia, and the Rose Valley glows soft pink during golden hour.
