The experience

You meet the crew at Bodrum pier and set off toward Black Island, a 40-minute run across open water. This is the stop that separates a private tour from the crowded public boats: the gulet enters a bay where the larger tour ferries cannot go, and the water sits in shades of turquoise the itineraries never quite capture. You'll have time to snorkel here, or simply float and watch the limestone cliffs rise above the cove.

The second stop is Aquarius Bay, where the crew serves lunch. The sand runs white and fine, and the water stays shallow enough to wade out far. This is where you stay longest: long enough to eat, to swim again after, to use the paddle board or the fishing rod if the mood takes you. Snorkeling equipment is on board and free. A Seabob (a handheld underwater scooter) costs extra if you want one. Soft drinks, water and seasonal fruit come with the day. You're welcome to bring your own wine or beer.

Red Bay is the final stop before the return to Bodrum. By then you've swum twice, eaten, and spent hours in bays most visitors never find. The crew brings fresh fruit as the afternoon winds down, and the boat heads back to the pier where the day started.
