Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Roman ruins and local heritage

  • Visit archaeological site of Oudhna
  • Tour family organic olive grove
  • Enjoy olive oil tasting and country lunch
  • Stroll through Testour town
  • Visit Testour mosque with unique minaret
  • Return to accommodation

The experience

The day starts at Oudhna, one of Tunisia's best-preserved Roman cities. The site sits less crowded than Carthage or Dougga, which means you move through the amphitheatre, thermal baths, capitol building and the network of underground cisterns without the press of summer tour groups. Your guide walks you through what each structure was and how it worked, grounding the ruins in the daily life they once held.

From there you head to a family-run organic olive grove, where the owners themselves lead you through cultivation and production. You see how the olives move from tree to press, then taste extra virgin oils made on the property. Lunch follows in the natural setting of the grove: traditional Tunisian dishes, seasonal vegetables and regional cheeses, all sourced locally. This is where the gastronomic half of the day settles in, and it gives you time to sit and absorb what you've learned about the work that goes into what you're eating.

The afternoon takes you to Testour, a town the Andalusians founded in the 17th century. Its whitewashed houses line narrow streets, and the mosque stands out for its minaret topped with an inverted clock. A visual oddity that has become the town's signature. You walk through it with your guide before heading back to your accommodation, the day moving from ancient stone to living agricultural tradition to colonial-era architecture.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German and Italian.

What exactly is at the Oudhna archaeological site?

Oudhna holds a Roman amphitheatre, thermal baths, a capitol building and a vast network of underground cisterns: the infrastructure of a Roman city that operated for centuries. It is one of Tunisia's most intact Roman sites and draws fewer visitors than Carthage or Dougga, especially in summer.

Do I get to taste the olive oil, or just see the grove?

You taste extra virgin olive oils produced at the estate after learning how they are made. The tasting is part of the visit, and lunch at the grove includes local products grown or made in the region.

Is lunch included in the price, and what kind of food is it?

Lunch is included and served at the olive grove. It features traditional Tunisian specialties, seasonal vegetables and regional cheeses, all sourced locally or made on the property.

What is special about the mosque in Testour?

Testour's mosque has a minaret decorated with an inverted clock, a unique symbol of the town. The Andalusians founded Testour in the 17th century, and the mosque reflects that heritage.

How long is the full day, and what time does it start?

The tour runs eight hours from pickup at your hotel. Your guide will confirm the exact start time when you book, depending on where you are staying in Tunis.
