Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Tobago's sights and villages

  • Drive through capital city
  • Visit Botanic Gardens and walk
  • See Fort King George and views
  • Drive across island to Plymouth
  • Explore mystery tombstone and ruins
  • Drive along Caribbean Sea coast
  • Stop at Store Bay beach and market

The experience

The tour starts with a drive along the Caribbean coast through small villages and towns, each one offering sea views. You stop at Store Bay, the island's most popular beach, where the morning is yours to spend as you choose: swim in the shallows, walk the sand, or browse the stalls selling typical arts, crafts and local food. The crab and dumplings are a signature dish here. After an hour or so, you head back inland toward your hotel.

Before the return, the route takes you to Fort King George, where you'll learn the history of the fort and stand on the ramparts for panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The cannons make for memorable photos. From there, a short drive leads to the Botanic Gardens in the capital, where a walk through the grounds shows off the various tropical trees and plants the island grows. The tour then crosses toward the Caribbean side again, passing through small villages to Plymouth, where you stop at Fort James and the mystery tombstone. A 17th-century inscription that has puzzled visitors for centuries and become a conversation starter among locals.

The guide speaks English and handles all the driving. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included for selected hotels. Bring casual clothes and sunscreen. Bottled water is provided, though food and drinks beyond what you buy at Store Bay are not part of the tour.
