The Experience

The day starts with hotel pickup and a drive to Fort King George, where you'll see the cannons, take photos, and hear the history of the site before the panoramic Atlantic views. From there the route crosses the island through small villages and coastal towns, stopping in Plymouth to see the 17th-century Fort James ruins and the mystery tombstone—an inscription that has puzzled visitors for centuries and become a conversation piece in its own right.

Once you board the large, covered glass bottom boat at Buccoo Reef, the underwater world opens up without you getting wet. The boat's glass panels let you watch angel fish, parrot fish, butterfly fish and the hard and soft coral species of the reef gardens drift past. The breeze along the picturesque coast is refreshing, and the captain and staff are there if you need help. Then comes the snorkeling: you'll swim among the same fish and coral you just watched from above, with snorkel equipment provided and the soft Caribbean water around you.

The boat continues to Nylon Pool, a shallow sandy area in the middle of the sea with crystal-clear water. You can swim again, walk on the soft seabed, or float while taking in the coast. A local lunch waits for you back on shore, and the drive back to your hotel closes the day. Store Bay is a final stop if time allows—a chance to walk the beach, browse local arts and crafts, or try the famous crab and dumplings before heading out.
