Explore Buccoo Reef and Nylon Pool

  • Board glass bottom boat
  • View colorful fish and coral
  • Snorkel among exotic fish
  • Swim and relax at Nylon Pool
  • Return to shore and hotel

The experience

The boat itself is the first thing you board: a large covered glass bottom vessel that lets you see the reef without getting wet. From there you watch angel fish, parrot fish and butterfly fish move through the coral gardens below, the glass keeping you dry while the breeze off the Tobago coast moves across the deck. The soothing ride takes you along the picturesque shoreline until the captain stops at Buccoo Reef itself.

That's when you enter the water. Snorkeling equipment is provided, and the captain and staff assist if you need help. You swim among the same exotic fish you watched from above, now at their level in the soft Caribbean waters. The activity depends on weather (rough seas mean the snorkeling portion may change or be limited), but when conditions allow, this is the moment the whole trip builds toward.

The final stop is Nylon Pool, a shallow sandy area in the middle of the sea where the water sits crystal clear and the bottom is soft white sand. You can walk on it, float, or simply drift and look back at the Tobago coast. The boat carries life jackets, masks and snorkels at no extra charge. When you're ready to leave, your driver meets you back on shore for the return to your hotel. Bring rough shoes for the coral, your own towel, and casual swim wear.

Is this one for you?The snorkeling portion depends on weather and the boat carries limited gear, so conditions and group size may affect what you get to do in the water. Plan this for a calm day and bring rough shoes for the coral if you want to maximize time underwater.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 11 years). Children under 3 can't be included in the booking.

What exactly is the Nylon Pool and what do you do there?

Nylon Pool is a shallow sandy area in the middle of the sea off Tobago with crystal-clear water and a soft white seabed. You swim, walk on the sand, or float and relax there after snorkeling at Buccoo Reef.

Do I snorkel at Buccoo Reef itself, or just watch from the boat?

You do both. First you view the coral gardens and fish through the glass bottom of the boat, then the boat stops and you enter the water to snorkel among the same reef with provided equipment.

What if the weather is rough on the day I go?

Snorkeling activity is subject to change depending on weather conditions. Rough seas may limit or alter the snorkeling portion, though the glass bottom boat ride and Nylon Pool visit can still happen. The captain and staff will decide based on conditions that day.

Is snorkeling equipment included, or do I need to bring my own?

Snorkeling equipment is provided at no extra charge, including masks and snorkels. Gear is limited by capacity, so availability depends on group size.

How long does the whole activity take?

The activity runs about three and a half hours from pickup at your hotel through the return, including the glass bottom boat ride, snorkeling at Buccoo Reef, and time at Nylon Pool.
