The Experience

The day starts with a pickup from your hotel and a drive to Fort King George on the North Atlantic side of the island. This 1770s fort sits on a ridge with views across the sea toward Port of Spain, and the old cannons and colonial buildings anchor the island's military history. From there the tour moves inland to a cocoa plantation where you can see the trees and taste cocoa beans—if the parrots haven't gotten to them first. A stop at Speyside Lookout shows you Goat Island, the former home of Ian Fleming, and Little Tobago (now a bird sanctuary), and along the way you pass through small villages, spot the famous Jemma's Tree House restaurant, and see the ruins of a large Scottish-built water wheel.

Charlotteville is where the tour shifts from history to water. This northern village sits where the Caribbean Sea meets the coast, and from here you board a private boat for a short trip to Pirate Bay—a secluded wild beach accessible only by water. You'll have a few hours to snorkel in the bay with provided equipment, exploring the underwater landscape, and lunch (Caribbean-style food) is served on the beach. The boat then takes you to Pink Sand Beach (also called Lovers Bay), another private boat-only beach where you can relax and swim before heading back.

The return journey follows the Caribbean side of the island as the sun sets, then down the west coast back to Crown Point and your hotel by 6:00 p.m. The tour vehicle has air conditioning available, though local guidance recommends keeping windows open instead. Bring swimwear, a change of dry clothes, and sunscreen; snorkeling gear and towels are provided by the tour.
