The experience

You're picked up from your Krabi hotel between 8 and 8:30 a.m. (the exact time depends on whether you're staying in Kabi Town, Klong Muang, Tubkaak, or Aonang), and driven to the pier. The boat heads first to Phra Nang Cave Beach on the Railay peninsula, where you swim and explore the limestone cave that local fishermen use as a shrine. From there the route moves to Chicken Island for snorkeling among the tropical fish and coral reef, then lunch is served on the boat.

The afternoon takes you to Koh Tub, nicknamed Miracle Beach for the sandbar that connects its two sides when the tide drops low enough to walk across. You can swim and relax here before moving on to Koh Poda for more time in the water. The boat returns to the pier around 2:30 p.m., and you're transferred back to your hotel by mid-afternoon, leaving the rest of the day free. A sea guide travels with the group, and the boat provides life jackets, masks and snorkels. You bring only a towel and sunscreen.

National park entrance fees are not included in the base price (adults pay 400 baht and children 200 baht at the pier), so factor that into your budget.
