The Experience

You get picked up from your Krabi hotel at 7:30am, transferred to a meeting point for gear fitting, then taken by taxi and long-tail boat to Railay Beach. The beach sits between two limestone cliffs—the east side holds the climbing routes, ranging from easy to difficult, so you choose the grade that matches your level. A certified instructor runs the session in English, keeping the group small so everyone gets attention and safety stays tight.

The morning climbing happens on one or both locations on the beach, depending on what you want to work on. You'll learn top rope climbing, rappelling-abseiling and bouldering, with a safety briefing before you start. The limestone is the real thing—not a gym wall—and the view opens onto the adjacent beaches and water while you're on the rock. If you book the half-day, you head back to the mainland by 1pm and return to your hotel by 2pm. If you choose full-day, you break for lunch at 1pm, then climb again in the afternoon with a caving and abseiling session from the Railay viewpoint before heading back around 6pm.

All climbing shoes, harness, helmet and hardware come with you; you bring a small backpack, comfortable loose clothing, sun protection and a camera. The operator provides individual accident insurance. If you finish a 3 or 4-day course, you get a certification card. Bad weather or rough seas can shift the schedule, and you can cancel up to two days before departure for a full refund.
