The Experience
You get picked up from your hotel between 8 and 9 a.m. and driven to Chalong Pier, where you board a speedboat with other travelers. The boat heads out to Racha Island first, arriving by mid-morning. The island is quieter than the busier spots closer to shore — white sand, clear water, and two main bays to choose from. You swim, snorkel with the mask and snorkel provided, or just sit on the beach. Most people spend three and a half hours here before the boat moves on.
Around midday you arrive at Coral Island and eat a Thai lunch on the beach. After lunch, the afternoon is yours to shape. The island has a range of water sports set up on the sand — parasailing, banana boat rides, underwater walking, scuba diving — all optional and available to book on the spot if you want them. If you'd rather rest or swim without paying extra, that's fine too. You have until 4 p.m., when the boat leaves to head back to Chalong Pier and then to your hotel, arriving around 4:30 p.m.
The speedboat is shared, so you'll be with other visitors. Your guide speaks English and is there to help with logistics and answer questions about the islands. Life jackets are provided and required. The whole day is eight hours from pickup to drop-off, which means if you're staying in Patong, Kata or Karon you won't pay extra for transport; hotels further out may have an additional charge or you can meet the boat at Chalong Pier instead.
