The experience

The catamaran departs from a Phuket pier and heads across the Andaman Sea to Coral Island first, where you get the afternoon to snorkel the reef or simply relax on the beach with a mask and snorkel already in your hands: the gear and a life jacket are supplied. The water is clear enough to see the marine life without guessing at it, and the beach chair waits if you want to sit out part of the day.

From Coral Island, the crew transfers you to a longtail boat to explore Racha Island, where the snorkeling picks up again. You'll wear a life jacket the whole time you're in the water, and the guide (speaking English or Chinese) stays with the group. Lunch happens somewhere in the middle of the day: real food, not a snack box, plus soft drinks and fresh fruit. The itinerary also includes a fishing activity as the light starts to go, so if you want to cast a line while the sunset moves across the horizon, that's part of the plan.

Hotel pickup is free from most of Phuket's main neighborhoods (Patong, Kata, Karon, Rawai, Kalim, Phuket town and several others), so you don't arrange your own transport to the pier. The whole day runs eight to nine hours from start to finish. Children from age four are welcome, and the tour suits any fitness level, though it's not recommended for travelers with certain medical conditions (spinal injuries, heart disease, high blood pressure, or pregnancy).
