The experience

You're picked up from your hotel in the morning and driven to Chalong Pier, where you board a catamaran with a live guide who speaks English and Thai. The boat heads to Kahung Beach on Coral Island, arriving around 2 PM with two hours to spend in the water. Snorkeling equipment is provided, and the reef here is the main draw: clear turquoise water and coral you can reach without much effort. If snorkeling isn't your thing, you swim, float or stay on the sand. The beach itself is small and white, backed by palms, and it fills up with other tour groups, so it's not remote, but it's also not crowded in a way that ruins it.

Optional water sports are available at Coral Island (parasailing, banana boat rides, scuba diving, sea walking and clear kayak tours), and you pay extra for any of these on the day. After two hours on the beach, the catamaran sets sail again, making stops at other spots for more swimming and snorkeling as it heads toward Promthep Cape. This is the scenic viewpoint at Phuket's southern tip, famous for its views across the Andaman Sea, and you'll cruise around it as the light starts to change. By 5 PM, Thai dinner is served on board: a light buffet laid out as you sail toward sunset. It's not a sit-down restaurant meal. It's food on a moving boat, so expect casual and practical. You arrive back at Chalong Pier around 7 PM for the return transfer to your hotel.
