Dive without certification on your first day in the water

A beginner scuba diving class in Phuket that starts with pool training at Kata Beach, then moves to two open-water dives at Koh Racha Yai. A certified instructor teaches you the basics before and during each dive, and all equipment, meals and hotel pickup are included. Children from age 10 are welcome with a supervising parent.

The Experience

You start at your hotel in Phuket with pickup from Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata, Chalong pier or Rawai. The boat takes you to Koh Racha Yai, where the real learning begins. Before you enter the water, your certified instructor walks you through the gear—wetsuit, buoyancy control device, mask, regulator, fins—and explains what to expect. The pool training happens first, giving you a chance to get comfortable with breathing underwater and moving in the equipment before the open water.

Once you're ready, you make two open-water dives at Koh Racha Yai. The instructor stays with you the whole time, watching your technique and pointing out what's around you: tropical fish, colourful corals, sea turtles. You're not sightseeing—you're learning to control your buoyancy, clear your mask if water gets in, and move deliberately through the water. The dives are shallow enough for beginners and the reef is close to the boat, so there's no long swim to get there.

Breakfast and lunch are included, along with snacks, water, tea and coffee throughout the day. The operator has been running dives in Phuket for 16 years and holds over 3,000 five-star reviews. Guides speak English, French, Swedish, Russian and several other languages. Souvenir photos are available to buy in cash if you want them. You need a moderate level of fitness and should not dive within 18 hours of flying; a health questionnaire is required before you get in the water.

What’s included

  • Full scuba equipment (wetsuit, buoyancy control device, mask, regulator, fins).
  • breakfast, lunch, snacks, water, tea and coffee.
  • hotel pickup and drop-off from Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata, Chalong pier or Rawai.
  • certified instructor.
  • scuba diving insurance.

Operated by Phuket Dive Tours

Is this one for you?Hotel pickup from Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata, Chalong pier or Rawai means you don't need a car or a ride arranged—the boat leaves from the pier after you're collected. This settles the logistics for a first-time diver arriving without transport or staying in a central beach area.
