The experience

Hotel pickup happens in the morning from Ao Nang, Krabi Town, Ao Nam Mao, Klong Muang, Tubkaek Beach or directly from Railay Beach. After a briefing from the boat crew at Nopparat Thara Pier about sea and weather conditions, you board a speed boat with a maximum of 45 seats. The ride itself is the draw: the Andaman Sea crossing builds anticipation before you reach the first stop at Loh Samah Bay, where a floating pier and wooden trail lead up to Maya Bay.

Maya Bay gets 50 minutes on the ground. You can touch the white sand and wade into turquoise water. At low tide, black-tip reef sharks sometimes swim in the shallows. The bay has strict rules (no swimming, no single-use plastics, reef-safe sunscreen only, and no drones without permission), so the visit is brief and structured. From there, the boat cruises to the east side of Phi Phi Leh for snorkeling over coral reefs with clear water. Life jackets and snorkeling equipment are provided. You'll pass Viking Cave, where bird's nest soup is harvested, then cruise past Monkey Beach on the southwestern shore of Tonsai Bay. Though you won't land there, the 150-meter beach with its colony of monkeys is visible, especially at low tide.

Free time at Ton Sai village lets you walk the island paths and explore the curved bays. The final stop is Bamboo Island (Koh Pai), a flat, uninhabited island 5 km off the northern tip of Koh Phi Phi Don, ringed by white sand and a reef that extends 500 meters from shore: the operator describes it as swimming in an aquarium. Thai buffet lunch happens at Phi Phi Arida restaurant on Phi Phi Don. Let the operator know your meal preferences when you book. The full day runs eight hours, with drinking water and seasonal fruit provided throughout.

What's the difference between Maya Bay and the snorkeling stop on this tour?

Maya Bay is a beach visit where you wade and photograph the limestone cliffs and lagoon for about 50 minutes, but swimming is not allowed there. The snorkeling happens on the east side of Phi Phi Leh at a separate coral reef site with clear water where you enter the sea with gear and a life jacket.

Will I see monkeys on this tour?

Monkey Beach is a viewpoint during the cruise, not a landing stop. You'll see the 150-meter beach and the colony of monkeys from the boat, especially if the tide is low and the monkeys are foraging on the shore. The operator asks that you don't feed them, as it makes them aggressive and disrupts their natural feeding.

What happens if the weather is bad or the sea is rough?

The tour program is subject to change due to weather and sea conditions. The boat crew will brief you on conditions at the pier before departure and may alter the itinerary if needed. The Mu Koh Phi Phi Marine Park also closes for two months during low season each year, which affects availability.

Is the speed boat ride rough, and do I need to wear a life jacket the whole time?

The operator strongly recommends wearing a life jacket throughout the entire boat ride to the islands and while snorkeling. The speed boat crossing of the Andaman Sea is described as an exciting ride, so expect motion and spray, especially in rougher conditions.
