PADI Discover Scuba Diving is a full-day activity in Ko Lanta where you complete two guided dives with an experienced instructor in groups of four or fewer. The operator picks you up from your resort at 8am, provides all equipment, meals and marine park fees, and takes you to Koh Haa in high season (October–May) or the Bida Islands near Koh Phi Phi in low season (May–October). Minimum age is 10 years. You'll complete a health questionnaire before entering the water.

The experience

Eight hours from pickup to return, and you spend the morning and afternoon underwater instead of watching from a boat. The instructor walks you through breathing and movement on your first dive in shallower water, then takes you deeper on the second one once you've found your rhythm. Groups max out at four divers per guide, so you get real attention and can move at your own pace instead of being herded through a lineup.

Koh Haa in high season means five islands to explore. The Bida Islands near Koh Phi Phi in low season offer their own reef life and rock formations. The boat is equipped for comfort. Towels, shade, and a full day of food: breakfast before you leave the resort, a buffet lunch on the boat between dives, snacks and light refreshments throughout. All your gear is provided and fitted to you. The only thing you bring is a valid health questionnaire completed before the day starts.

The operator handles pickup and drop-off from any resort on the island, marine park entry fees, and all the logistics that usually mean renting separately or booking through a middleman. Your guide speaks English, Italian, French or German depending on the departure.

What time does the boat leave and when do I get back?

Pickup from your resort is at 8am. The full day is eight hours including travel time to the dive sites and back. You'll be returned to your resort by mid-afternoon.

What meals and drinks are included?

Breakfast before departure, a buffet lunch on the boat between dives, snacks and light refreshments throughout the day. The operator accommodates vegetarian diets if you mention it at booking.

Is there a minimum age or fitness requirement?

Minimum age is 10 years. You should have at least moderate physical fitness. The operator does not recommend diving for travelers with poor cardiovascular health, spinal injuries or pregnancy. All participants complete a health questionnaire, and some pre-existing conditions like asthma or heart conditions may require a doctor's clearance.

Do I need to avoid flying before or after diving?

Diving within 48 hours of flying is not recommended. Plan your flight arrival at least two days before this dive, or wait two days after diving before you fly out.
