Step-by-step itinerary
Doi Suthep and street food tour
- Explore Doi Suthep temple with guide
- Enjoy city view at sunset
- Visit first street food market
- Sample 6-8 street food dishes
- Visit second street food market
- Sample 5-7 street food dishes
The Experience
The tour starts with pickup and a drive up to Doi Suthep, where Wat Phra That Doi Suthep sits on a hilltop overlooking Chiang Mai. Your guide walks you through the temple's history and layout, then you stay to watch the city lights come on at sunset before heading down to the street food markets. The timing means you arrive at the first market as the evening crowd builds—the vendors are set up, the air is thick with smoke from grills, and the food is at its peak.
At the first market, you work through approximately 6–8 different dishes: soups, curries, noodles, dumplings, rice-based plates, seafood, and whatever else the vendors have made that night. The guide orders for you and explains what you're eating and why—the spice level, the ingredient, the neighborhood it comes from. You eat standing up, moving between stalls, tasting as you go. At the second market an hour later, you do it again with another 5–7 dishes, this time heavier plates meant to fill you up.
The tour runs four hours total. If you have allergies or dietary restrictions—nuts, dairy, shellfish, gluten—tell the operator when you book and they'll adapt the dishes or swap them out. The tour is not suitable for vegetarians, vegans, or those keeping halal or kosher, since most dishes contain meat or seafood. Bottled water is provided throughout, and insurance is included in the price.
