Ao Nang Longtail Boat Tour Snorkel Ko Ma and Poda Island
Snorkel coral reefs at Ko Ma Thang Ming, then drift on Poda Island's white sand.
A half-day longtail boat tour from Ao Nang takes you past Railay Beach, Chicken Island and Tup Island, then stops for snorkeling at Ko Ma Thang Ming where the coral and fish are dense. After that comes free time on Poda Island to swim and rest on the beach. The boat returns with fresh fruit and coconut as you watch the coast slip past. A professional guide leads the group, and the tour runs five to six hours including pickup and drop-off.

The experience
You're picked up from your Ao Nang hotel and driven to the pier, where a wooden longtail boat waits. The engine starts and you cruise past Railay Beach, Chicken Island, Tup Island and Koh Mor: each one a limestone wall rising from the water, each one a reason the camera comes out. The boat doesn't stop at these. You're moving, watching the coast change shape as the guide points out what's ahead.
Ko Ma Thang Ming is where the boat slows. You put on snorkeling gear and a life jacket, then slip into water clear enough to see the coral heads below and the fish moving through them. The reef here is small and close to shore, not a deep dive, just a swim where the marine life is thick. You have time to explore, then climb back aboard. Poda Island comes next, and this is the long stop. White sand, shallow turquoise water, shade under the palms if you want it. Some people swim, some lie on the beach, some wade and look for shells. There's no schedule here. You stay as long as the group needs.
On the way back, the boat slows again at Thale Waek, a rock formation that rises from the sea. Fresh fruit and coconut arrive (pineapple, watermelon, papaya, whatever is ripe that day), and you eat while the boat cuts through the water toward Ao Nang. The whole day is five to six hours from the moment you're picked up to the moment you're dropped off, with about four of those hours spent traveling, cruising and waiting at the stops.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Infant (under 2).
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the snorkeling like at Ko Ma Thang Ming?
Ko Ma Thang Ming has a small coral reef close to shore with colorful fish and coral formations in clear water. It's a shallow snorkel, not a deep dive, and the marine life is dense enough that you'll see something in every direction. Snorkeling gear and a life jacket are provided.
How much free time do you get on Poda Island?
Poda Island is the main stop where the group has time to swim, rest on the white sand beach and wade in the turquoise water. The exact length depends on the group, but it's the longest pause in the day: long enough to actually relax, not just step off and step back on.
Does the tour include pickup from my hotel?
Pickup and drop-off are included in the morning and sunset options with pickup. The no-pickup options mean you arrange your own way to the pier in Ao Nang. Fresh fruit, coconut, water, soft drinks and a light snack are provided on the boat.
What islands do you pass on the way out?
The boat cruises past Railay Beach, Chicken Island, Tup Island and Koh Mor before reaching Ko Ma Thang Ming. These are viewed from the water as the boat moves. The only stops for getting in the water are Ko Ma Thang Ming for snorkeling and Poda Island for swimming and beach time.
Is this tour suitable if I'm not a strong swimmer?
A life jacket is provided and worn during snorkeling, so you stay afloat. The snorkel site is shallow and close to shore. The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels, though it's not recommended for pregnant travelers or those with poor cardiovascular health.
