The Experience
The tour starts with hotel pickup in Bangkok and heads straight to the Maeklong Railway Market, where you'll watch the market stalls fold back as the train passes through, then walk the aisles for coffee and a look around. From there it's on to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, where you'll ride a local boat through the canals. By afternoon you're in Kanchanaburi, stopping at the War Cemetery on the way, then reaching the Bridge on the River Kwai—you can walk it, photograph it, and take an optional boat ride or the Death Railway ride if you want. Overnight is at a 3-star hotel on the river with breakfast included; your guide takes you to the night market for dinner and free time to explore the town center.
Day two moves into Erawan National Park, where the terraced Erawan Falls drop into a series of turquoise pools. Your guide will point out the best spots for swimming, and if you're up for it, a one-hour hike reaches the seventh waterfall for forest views. A Thai-style picnic lunch happens at the park before the drive to Lopburi, where you'll visit the Monkey Temple before sunset and stay overnight at a 3-star hotel. The Erawan Shrine is a stop on the way if you want to visit it.
Day three starts with the morning market in Lopburi, then a ninety-minute drive to Ayutthaya, the ancient capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The guide takes you through Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, Wat Phanan Choeng (with its 19-meter Buddha image), Wat Phra Mahathat (famous for the Buddha head wrapped in Banyan tree roots), the reclining Buddha, and Wat Chaiwatthanaram, built in the style of Angkor Wat temples and set on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. After lunch and the temple visits, you're driven back to Bangkok and dropped at your hotel.
