The experience
The boat leaves early to find dolphins in their natural habitat: bottlenose and spinner pods are common here, and from June to October humpback whales sometimes appear. You're on the water looking, not watching from shore, and the crew knows where to find them. After the dolphin encounter, you return to the beach for fresh tropical fruit: pineapple, mangoes, bananas, watermelon, coconut and whatever else is in season.
Pungume Reef is where you actually enter the water. The snorkeling happens in clear, shallow coral gardens where you move through schools of tropical reef fish, and if conditions align, you might see green turtles, seahorses, octopuses, Napoleon wrasse, lionfish, and dozens of other species the reef holds. Beginners and experienced snorkelers both work here: the reef suits both. The crew provides all the gear you need.
From the reef, the boat takes you to a white-sand sandbank surrounded by turquoise water. You can swim, rest on the sand, or simply sit while the crew grills fresh fish, lobster, shrimp, calamari, and rice right there on the beach. A vegetarian option is available if you request it when booking. Bottled water and soft drinks come throughout the day. On rare occasions when the tide allows, the route includes a stop at Uzi Island to see mangrove forests and red colobus monkeys, though this is not guaranteed. The whole day runs six to eight hours depending on conditions and which pickup zone you choose.
