The experience
Kizimkazi sits at the southern tip of Zanzibar, and this tour builds the day around what makes it distinct: Kuza Cave, a limestone formation that doubles as a cultural center, where you swim in clear water and see local artifacts and Swahili history inside the caverns. The cave visit runs two hours and anchors the morning. From there the route moves north along the coast to Paje Beach, where the sand is soft, the water shallow and the horizon uncluttered: a place to swim, snorkel or simply sit. The stops are connected by private transport with air conditioning and WiFi on board.
The afternoon splits into two paths depending on your booking. One option takes you to Jozani Forest, where Red Colobus Monkeys live in close proximity and move through the canopy with visible personality. This leg runs about an hour. The other weaves in The Rock restaurant, perched on a tidal rock near Michamvi Pingwe, for a three-hour sunset dinner with a three-course meal of seafood or Swahili specialties and a glass of sparkling wine as the sun drops into the Indian Ocean. Both routes end at Salaam Cave, off Kizimkazi Beach, where you swim alongside sea turtles in water clear enough to see them move.
A live guide travels with you in English, Spanish, Italian, French or one additional language, and the operator includes bottled water, all fees and taxes, and pickup from your hotel. The day is active (you're in and out of water multiple times), but suited to all fitness levels. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are available. The vehicle and all areas are wheelchair accessible.
