The experience

The day starts with a 3-hour snorkeling session at Mnemba Island Atoll, a marine reserve on Zanzibar's northeast coast known for lionfish, moray eels, stingrays and turtles in the shallows. You swim and watch playful dolphins, then relax on a sandbank in shallow water where you can walk barefoot or sunbathe. Tropical fruit is served between the water time.

After snorkeling, you visit Tropical Spice Farm, an award-winning plantation with over 500 medicinal plants and spices. A guide walks you through the rural plantations where clove, nutmeg and cinnamon are grown and harvested. The farm sits surrounded by the plants used in Zanzibar's most aromatic dishes, and you move directly into a cooking class where you prepare traditional Swahili dishes together, using the spices and ingredients grown on the property.

The day ends with a one-hour guided horseback ride at sunset. You ride along the Indian Ocean water and through coconut palms.
