The drive south follows Lake Lucerne's shoreline into the city of Lucerne itself, where you walk past the Lion Monument, Rathaus, and Kapellbruecke before continuing to Engelberg, a mountain resort in the Swiss Alps. From there, you board the Rotair (a rotating cable car that spins as it climbs), and rise to Mount Titlis at 3,000 meters. The 360-degree views from the summit are the main draw: you stand surrounded by Alpine peaks with nothing between you and the horizon.
Once at the top, the itinerary opens up. The Ice Palace is a walk-through attraction carved into the glacier. The Ice Flyer is a cable car ride down a steep face. The Titlis Cliff Walk is a suspension bridge strung across a crevasse, Europe's highest, and it is genuinely exposed: you cross it on foot with nothing but air beneath you.
