The Experience
You arrive in Zurich with a free afternoon and no fixed itinerary. Download the app or open the browser version, and you're given a mission: help the city-explorer Jackson Wilde by solving quizzes at each stop and racking up points. The game sends you to nine locations across the city—starting at the Swiss National Museum, built in 1898, then up to Lindenhof, a hilltop area with roots in Roman times and one of Zurich's oldest inhabited places. From there the route moves through the Town Hall, which has governed the city since the 17th century, and St. Peter's Church, where you'll see Europe's largest church clock face. The quizzes aren't just trivia; they teach you why each place matters—the Reformation role of St. Peter's, the banking power of Paradeplatz, the Chagall stained-glass windows at Fraumünster.
The pace is entirely yours. You're not following a guide or a group schedule; you stop when you want, linger at a landmark, grab a coffee, or skip ahead. The app feeds you information and questions about each site as you arrive, so you're learning as you move. Fraumünster's five stained-glass windows created by Chagall in 1970 are waiting for you to photograph and answer about them. Grossmünster, legendarily founded by Charlemagne in the 8th or 9th century, has its own quiz. The Münsterbrücke and the Opera House—adorned with busts of Mozart, Wagner and Weber—round out the route. Two to three hours is typical, but you control whether that stretches or compresses.
The game works on any smartphone with Android, iOS or a web browser, so there's no separate device to carry or charge. Quizzes and historical guides come built in; you're not paying separately for entry to the monuments themselves—that's your choice if you want to go inside. The activity suits families, solo travelers, and anyone who wants to learn the city without booking a guide or keeping to someone else's schedule. Available in four languages, it's designed for all fitness levels, and public transit is nearby if you need to skip between stops or cut the route short.
