The Experience

The tour starts at Zurich Bus Station, where you board the red open-top bus and settle in for a 1-hour audio-guided loop through the city. The bus moves through the old town past the Fraumünster Church, a Protestant landmark in Zurich's historic core, then follows the shores of Lake Zurich where the water and surrounding landscapes fill the view. You pass the Rietberg Museum, a cluster of three historic villas set in one of the city's oldest parks — the composer Richard Wagner lived there in the 19th century and finished Tristan und Isolde while staying on the estate. The route also takes in the Swiss National Museum, an architectural landmark that blends historic and modern design, and the Urania Observatory, the city's first concrete structure, built in 1907.

The audio guide narrates in English, Spanish, French, German and two more languages, so you control what you learn about each stop. You'll pass the Zurich railway station, the largest in Switzerland and a junction for trains to Italy, France, Austria and Germany, and see the headquarters of FIFA and a museum dedicated to football that opened in 2016. The bus also passes through the financial district, where the Schweizerische Kreditanstalt — Switzerland's first major bank, founded in 1856 — played a role in financing the Swiss railway network and later became Credit Suisse. The tour ends back at Zurich Bus Station.

If you add the boat cruise option at checkout, let the driver know when you board the bus and he'll give you your cruise ticket and details. The lake cruise runs from May through September and lets you see Zurich's waterfront and surrounding landscapes from the water. Children from age 4 are welcome on both the bus and the boat.
