The experience

You arrive in Gstaad with a free afternoon or a week to spend on snow, and you want instruction that fits where you actually stand, not a group class that assumes everyone learns the same way. Ski School Rougemont assigns you one private instructor, selected to match your level and goals. A beginner who has never skied gets paired with someone who builds confidence on gentle terrain. An intermediate skier working on technique gets an instructor who diagnoses what to adjust. An expert looking for the steepest lines in the region gets someone who knows them and can push you there safely.

If skiing or snowboarding isn't the day you want, the same guides run other winter activities across the valley. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing let you move through quieter terrain. Sledding and snow tubing work for families. Ice skating happens at the rink in central Gstaad, with your guide there to help. For the adrenaline side, backcountry free ride and heli-skiing tours are available with guides trained for that terrain. You can also mix activities. A family might combine a morning ski lesson with an afternoon sledding run, or a business group might split between skiing and snowshoeing depending on who wants what.

The lesson runs about five hours. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or one of four other languages, and pickup from your accommodation is included in the booking. Infants and small children can come along in a pram or stroller if needed, and the school can arrange specialized infant seats.

I've never skied before, will an instructor take me from zero?
