The experience

The Giarsun Gorge is built around technical rapids, not scenery stops. You start in Susch, 20 kilometres up the valley from Scuol, and the first 6 kilometres take you past the ancient villages of Lavin, Giarsun and Guarda with views of Piz Linard and Piz Mezdi. Then the river steepens, the canyon narrows, and the real action begins: rapids follow in quick succession, each one more difficult and longer than the last, until you reach the takeout at Ardez bridge. This is not a float. It is continuous technical paddling.

Your guide is a Swiss or internationally licensed professional with years of whitewater experience and white-water rescue certification. Before you launch, you get safety instruction and paddle training fitted to your level. All equipment is high-quality international gear: helmet, neoprene suit and jacket, shoes and lifejacket are provided. The operator undergoes annual safety audits by the SGS on behalf of Switzerland's Safety in Adventures foundation, and every guide is first aid qualified.

When you come off the river, there is a warm shower waiting, cold beer, and your photos. The trip runs four hours total. An air-conditioned vehicle is included for transport to and from the river.
