The experience
You meet the captain at Vaxholm harbour, on the edge of the archipelago, and board a modern yacht for an 8-hour sailing adventure. After a safety briefing, you set off through narrow straits lined with Scandinavian architecture (a mix of 19th-century homes and modern villas), before crossing larger bays toward wilder, uninhabited islands. The skipper puts you at the helm and walks you through steering and sail handling. You also help crew the vessel, trimming sails and managing lines as the boat moves through the maze of islands and skerries. No experience is necessary. Enthusiasm is what counts.
The archipelago itself is the draw. You'll pass islands big enough for villages, single homesteads, and rocky skerries so small they hold only one tree. Towering cliffs, narrow passages, dense forest and abundant wildlife emerge as you sail deeper in: parts of the archipelago are nominated for UNESCO World Heritage and National Park status. The serenity and rugged scenery shift the whole rhythm of the day.
Mid-voyage, you drop anchor at a picture-postcard island where you can swim, explore ashore, or simply rest. A freshly prepared lunch and drinks are served aboard while you're anchored. Coffee and snacks keep you fueled throughout the sail. Rain gear is provided if the weather turns, though the tour runs in all conditions unless the captain deems it unsafe. Bring a swimsuit, towel, warm layers, sunglasses and sunscreen. An extra set of clothes is wise if the weather is changeable.

Is this one for you?The 8-hour commitment means you're on the water from morning to late afternoon, leaving little room for other activities that day. Book this when you want a full immersion in the archipelago, not a half-day add-on to city sightseeing.
