The experience
The route starts at the cruise port and moves through Castries, where the largest church in the Caribbean, painted by local artists, anchors the city drive. You'll pass the local market and see the working rhythm of the town before heading to Morne Fortune, a viewpoint overlooking the Castries basin, Gros Islet and the coast. The guide stops here so you can photograph the panorama and browse local craft.
From there the drive takes you past St. Lucia's largest banana plantation and its distillery, then through Anse La Raye, a fishing village with colorful architecture and beaches that hosts the annual fish festival. Canaries comes next (another fishing village with scenic views and fresh country air), and it's home to Plas Kassav, a cassava bread production house. At each stop, the guide points out what makes the place distinctive, and you have time to step out and take photos.
Soufriere is where the tour opens its main choice. You'll first reach a viewing point with unobstructed sightlines to the twin Pitons, St. Lucia's most recognizable landmark. Then at Sulphur Springs Park, you decide: take a guided tour through the world's only drive-through volcano, or join the mud bath in the hot springs. The entrance fee and mud bath are included. The volcano tour admission is separate. After you've chosen, there's a lunch break before the drive back to the port. Bottled water, soda, local Piton beer and snacks travel with you the whole way.
